GENERAL FOX CONNER

Below is a chronology of General Fox Conner's life and career:

November 2, 1874  - Born in Slate Spring, Mississippi
April 25, 1898 - Graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point
1898-1905 - Served in field artillery and coastal artillery units
1905-1906 - Attended the U.S. Army Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas
1907-1911 - 
Attended then taught at the U.S. Army War College
1911-1912 - On duty with a French artillery regiment
1912-1916 - Returned to field artillery duty
1916-1917 - Served in the Office of the U.S. Army Inspector General
April - May 1917 - Named liaison between the U.S. Army War College and the French delegation to Washington
June 1917 - Selected by General Pershing as an initial member of the American Expeditionary Forces General Staff
June - November 1917 - Served as an assistant in the A.E.F’s Operations Section (G-3)
November 1917 - August 1919 - A.E.F. Chief of Operations
August 1919 - August 1920 - A.E.F. Chief of Staff
August 1920 - November 1921 - Chief of Staff to General of the Armies Pershing
November 1921 - September 1924 - Commanded the 20th Infantry Brigade in the Panama Canal Zone
December 1924-March 1926 - Served as the U.S. Army’s Assistant Chief of Staff for Supply (G-4)
March 1926 - April 30, 1927 - U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff
May - July 1927 - Commanded the 1st Infantry Division
October 1927 - August 1930 - Commanded the Hawaiian Division, then the Hawaiian Department
October 1930 - July 1938 - Commanded the First Corps Area
September 1930 - Retired
October 16, 1951 - Died in Washington, D.C.
